Position: Panel of Hallmarking Operators (Part-Time)
Salary: Based on Experience
Hours of Work: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week, flexible
The Dublin Assay Office (www.assay.ie) is responsible for the hallmarking of all gold, silver, platinum or palladium jewellery or plate, manufactured or imported into Ireland.
We are forming a panel of part-time Hallmarking Operators to support our Hallmarking production team, at our premises at Dublin Castle.
We are seeking flexible, hard-working and positive individuals with the following skill sets: confident, flexible attitude, dexterous with good eye and hand coordination, quick learner, customer liaison, articulate, and self-motivated. You will work as part of a team of Operators, reporting to the Supervisors and Manager of the Hallmarking area.
No previous experience required and full on-job training will be provided to ensure you achieve a high level of competence in all aspects of the role.
Responsibilities of The Role Include
- Unpacking and tray preparation of items
- Laser hallmarking
- Press work hallmarking
- Hand mark hallmarking
- Packaging of items for shipping
- Administrative duties, accurately recording items processed, and record levels of work, turnaround times achieved, and quality issues flagged
- Proactive communication regarding quality, operational or customer matters with the Production Manager or Supervisor to ensure there are no issues or concerns
- Abide by the Company’s Security rules and Regulations.
Hours
This is a part-time role based on up to 20 hours per week. Shift pattern to be agreed.

Laboratory & Quality Manager.
Position: Laboratory & Quality Manager
Reporting To: Assay Master & CEO
Hours of Work: 08:30-16:15
Contract: Full-time – Permanent (on site)

Dublin Assay Office carries out the statutory function of testing and hallmarking articles of precious metals. The service is provided by a small team of staff based at Dublin Castle, the company now wishes to recruit a Laboratory & Quality Manager.
Job Description
To manage the Laboratory Analyst and equipment resources to best achieve Assay Office performance and service objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To ensure that the Assay Office delivers an effective precious metal testing service to its internal and external customers on a day-to-day basis
- To ensure that the laboratory implements agreed internal procedures
- To implement best practice in the areas of Human Resource and Personnel Management in line with company policies
- To co-ordinate the daily activities of the Laboratory Analyst, and provide training and direction as required
- To provide back up to key sections of the business in the event of the absence of any other Manager
- Conduct activities in accordance with the general requirements of ISO17025 for testing laboratories and ISO9001 management system for the other parts of the business
Key Performance Responsibilities
- Maintenance of the ISO 17025 Quality Management System
- Ensuring Laboratory resources are utilised to best effect
- The leadership, accountability, and actions of the laboratory staff
- Adapting, responding, or innovating working practices to meet changing market demands or priorities
Job Complexity
- Develop and validate new analytical methods and update existing analytical methods in line with current developments and future business activities
Communication and Relationships – External and Internal
- The day-to-day leadership of the Laboratory Analyst
- Establishing and maintaining effective communication with the Laboratory Analyst
- Reporting on laboratory issues as part of the Management team
- Dealing with scientific queries from customers and members of the public
Special Conditions
- As required, attend and contribute to internal meetings, prepare papers and take appropriate action arising out of these meetings
- Attend relevant meetings or emergencies out of hours as required
General
- To undertake training, as necessary, to maintain high standards in the quality of work, as outlined in the Job Description, including participation in annual appraisal reviews
- To be aware of our Health and Safety Policy and to take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of all other members of staff, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work

Essential Skills
- Graduate and/or professional qualifications in chemistry. material science, metallurgy or similar, experience in the jewellery industry will be advantageous
- Working knowledge of X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy
- Capable of forging good working relationships with staff, customers and suppliers
- Experience managing and training staff
- Experience managing an analytical laboratory
- A sound understanding of identifying, measuring, and responding to KPI’s
- Experience working with ISO 17025 for testing laboratories
- Be able to demonstrate good leadership skills including directing and developing team members
- Be able to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining and improving high standards of customer service
- Demonstrate a high degree of accountability and decision making
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in the use of standard office software
Desirable Skills
- Relevant management experience at similar level
- Experience in a customer focused service type industry
- Experience of qualitative and quantitative testing of metal alloys
- Experience working within the precious metals industry
- Some knowledge of LIMS systems
